The area of Dasht-e-Barchi, where the school is located, is predominantly inhabited by the Hazara ethnic group. The incident resulted in the loss of 85-100 lives, predominantly schoolgirls under the age of 18, who were departing from their classes around 4:27 pm. Furthermore, 240 individuals sustained injuries, with dozens in critical situations. Although no group has formally accepted responsibility, previous attacks in the region have been linked to both ISIS and the Taliban.
