On July 18, 2015, three boys discovered an unexploded mortar round in a field in Wurduj District of Badakhshan Province. The ordnance subsequently detonated, killing one boy and injuring the other two. According to local community sources, the mortar round was likely a remnant from ground engagement between Taliban forces and the Afghan National Army that had occurred the previous day.
