On November 21, 2016, a suicide bomber targeted the religious gathering of Arba'in at the Baqir al-Ulum mosque on Fiaz Mohammad Kated Road, west of Kabul. The mosque was filled with hundreds of Hazara and Shia worshippers at the time of the explosion. The attack resulted in the deaths of at least 32-50 individuals and injured 50 others. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant-Khorasan Province (ISIL-KP) claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that the group had targeted Hazaras and Shias, referring to them as 'Rafida'.
