On December 21, 2017, a bomb placed under a three-wheeled vehicle, locally known as Zarange, detonated near a library in the Al-Mahdi neighborhood of Jibraeil Town in Herat City. The explosion resulted in the deaths of at least 6 individuals and injuries to 17 others. Jibraeil is a neighborhood in Herat City predominantly inhabited by Hazara and Shia communities. No group or individual claimed responsibility for the attack.
