On August 6, 2022, an explosive device detonated in the densely populated Pul-e-Sokhta neighborhood in western Kabul, resulting in 8 fatalities and over 22 individuals sustaining injuries. Media reports indicate that the intended target was a gathering of Hazara and Shia Muslims commemorating the occasion of Muharram, which marks the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein. All casualties were civilians, with the majority belonging to the Hazara ethnic community. The ISIL-KP group claimed the attack.
