On October 25, 2021, Ahmad Fahim and Hamid were tragically killed by Taliban forces on the Herat-Ghor highway in the Shirkhaj area of Chisht Herat district. The incident occurred a day after Ahmad Fahim, returning from a wedding party with his companions Hay Mustafa and Ghulam Farooq, encountered a Taliban ambush. Ahmad Fahim was injured in the ambush.

The following day, Hamid, the son of Ahmad Fahim’s paternal uncle and a former member of the popular uprisings, was transporting Ahmad Fahim to Herat for medical treatment. As they traveled through the Shirkhaj area of Chisht District, the Taliban intercepted their vehicle, forcibly removed them, and executed both men. In a further act of brutality, Hamid’s body was set on fire.
