Abdul Samad Amiri, acting head of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission's office in Ghor province, was abducted while traveling on a bus from Kabul to Ghor province. Amiri's family and the Commission were negotiating for his release when he was shot and killed on September 5, 2019. The Taliban Protection of Civilians Commission conducted an investigation, but it has not been made public. The incident represents both an abduction and subsequent execution of a human rights official.
