On January 23, 2019, during a clearing operation by Afghan government and international forces in Sangin district, Taliban fighters fired on the forces from a residential home. USFOR-A conducted two airstrikes on the house, killing 15 civilians and injuring five others, including three women and ten children. The civilians remained in the home until the following afternoon, when the Taliban allowed them to leave the area to receive medical care. USFOR-A conducted an investigation that confirmed the civilian casualties and stated that they were unaware of the civilians inside the house during the strikes.
