- Summary
In early March 2022, Ali Juma Yasa, the head of public relations for the Nation Party led by Dr. Jafar Mahdavi, was arrested and imprisoned by Taliban intelligence agents in Bamyan Province, Afghanistan. Mr. Mahdavi, a Hazara politician, is one of the few Hazara political figures known to support the Taliban. According to local sources and multiple media reports, despite extensive efforts by elders and influential figures from Yakawlang District No. 1, the intelligence department has refused to release Mr. Yasa. Several sources also claim that Mr. Yasa has been severely tortured and beaten while in custody of the intelligence forces. As of the time of this report, the whereabouts and fate of Mr. Yasa remain unknown.
