On February 6, 2017, during a family wedding celebration in Kabul province, children playing behind the house discovered and handled an unexploded shell, causing it to detonate. The explosion killed two children and wounded 12 others between the ages of 7 and 15. According to reports, the ordnance was likely a shell fired from a helicopter during previous fighting that had failed to explode upon initial impact.
