On October 1, 2018, two civilians were killed by unknown armed men on motorcycles in Taluqan, Takhar province. Police and pro-government militia forces pursued the attackers to Qara Hindu village, where Taliban fighters were waiting for them. This led to fighting between Taliban and government forces that continued for almost 40 minutes. The initial civilian killings preceded the armed confrontation between opposing forces.
