The head of Nangarhar intelligence, Dr. Zamir Mahanpor, together with Dr. Khoday Dad Basharmal, the head of eastern zone, with the support of some Soviet forces, carried out a mopping-up operation in Kas village of Aziz Khan of Laghaman province in late 1984 or early 1985. According to witnesses, security forces surrounded Kas village, searching for mujahidin. Not finding any (the mujahidin forces had retreated from the area), they ordered residents of the village out of their houses and shot them and their livestock. Approximately 72 men, women and children were killed. After the incident, all the villagers of Kas-i-Aziz khan left this village and moved to Pakistan and other parts of Afghanistan.
