On June 22, 2017, a Taliban car bomb exploded at the gate of the New Kabul Bank branch in Lashkargah, killing at least 34 people and wounding 58 others. The Taliban claimed responsibility for planting the explosives. Among the casualties were members of security forces as well as civilians who were shopping in preparation for the Eid religious festival. This attack targeted both a financial institution and civilians engaged in normal commercial activities during a religious holiday period.
