On July 16, 2017, two separate mine explosions occurred on the outskirts of Puli Khumri city, injuring eight people. The first blast wounded a local commander and his guard. The second explosion occurred while people had gathered to evacuate casualties from the initial blast site, wounding six civilians including one child. The mines had been planted by Taliban forces in the area.
