- Summary
An unclaimed complex attack targeted the Green Trend political party office in an assassination attempt on Amrullah Saleh, a former Afghan intelligence chief who was recently announced as President Ashraf Ghani's running-mate in the upcoming September elections. At least 20 people were killed and 50 others wounded when a car bomb exploded at Saleh's political headquarters, followed by the entry of half a dozen suicide bombers. The candidate was able to escape after a 50-minute battle with the insurgents. Of those killed, 16 were civilians and four were members of pro-government forces. Of the wounded, 43 were civilians.
