On April 3, 2017, Afghan army commando forces conducted a raid targeting a Taliban hideout in the Malgir area of Gerishk (Nahr-e Saraj) district. During the operation, the commandos detonated materials inside a house, causing it to collapse and killing nine members of a family, including four children, two women, two men, and a 70-year-old man. A relative of the victims stated that while there had been a Taliban center near the house, the militants had left the area before the operation began. Military officials disputed the account, claiming the civilians were killed by a Taliban landmine blast and denying that armed clashes had occurred in the area.
