On June 3, 2015, a pro-government armed group commander shut off the water supply from the Serhauz dam located in Pashtun Kot district, Faryab Province. This action deprived most of the district's population as well as residents of the provincial capital, Maimana, of water for several days. The commander reportedly shut off the water in retaliation for the looting of a humanitarian aid convoy destined for his area by a rival pro-government armed group the previous day. The water disruption resulted in crop and garden destruction or severe damage, further impacting the well-being of affected communities. Following intervention by district and provincial authorities, the commander reopened the water supply on June 13, 2015. According to reports, the commander was not held accountable for his actions. The identity of the commander was not publicly disclosed.
