On May 19, 2016, a roadside bomb exploded when a van drove over it in northern Afghanistan, killing eleven members of the same family, including five children and two women. Three other family members were wounded in the blast. The victims were traveling to their home in Qaisar Khil when the incident occurred. Afghan government officials attributed the attack to the Taliban, though no group claimed responsibility.
