In June 2016, Taliban fighters stopped several buses on a road in Chardara district, Kunduz Province. The militants forced passengers out, killed at least ten people immediately, and abducted 18 others. Ten of the hostages were later released. On June 26, the Taliban killed five of the eight remaining hostages, whose bodies were brought to the Kunduz hospital.
