On April 16, 2017, a clash erupted in Andar district when Taliban fighters attacked Afghan Local Police (ALP) checkpoints in the early morning. During the firefight, a Taliban mortar shell struck a civilian house, killing three civilians and damaging the residence. Some reports indicated that five civilians, including women and children, were killed in the mortar strike. Six Taliban fighters were also killed and several wounded in the confrontation. The Taliban confirmed their involvement in the clash.
