On October 31, 2017, an explosive device detonated on the boundary of Kabul's diplomatic "Green Zone," killing 10 civilians. This appeared to be a symbolic attack against the international community and represented the first attack in the diplomatic quarter since the devastating May 31 suicide bombing. The bombing targeted the heavily secured area housing foreign embassies and international organizations.
