- Summary
In September 2015, shortly after midnight, Khost Protection Force (KPF) members wearing tan camouflage and black masks entered a village in a remote mountainous area straddling the Pakistan border in Torghar District, Khost Province, searching for militants. When a man's father opened the gate, KPF shot him dead, then tossed a grenade into the compound, killing his mother. Men outside the compound were heard yelling in English. Days later, the KPF commander acknowledged to the son and village elders that the deaths were a mistake and provided $11,000 in compensation. The fighters later returned, handcuffed the man's uncle who sold rifles, took him away and handed him to the National Directorate of Security (NDS), but he was never charged with a crime or given access to a lawyer.
