On April 30, 2018, ISIS-KP carried out a coordinated double suicide attack in downtown Kabul specifically targeting journalists and first responders. The attack began with a suicide bomber on a motorbike detonating explosives at a National Directorate of Security checkpoint. When journalists and emergency responders arrived at the scene, a second suicide attacker posing as a journalist detonated his explosive device among the crowd. The secondary attack killed nine journalists, including one woman, and injured six other media workers. ISIS-KP claimed responsibility for both attacks, which resulted in a total of 63 civilian casualties—21 deaths and 42 injured, including four children.
