On August 17, 2017, Taliban militants attempted to carry out a suicide attack against the 6th Battalion of the third brigade using a Humvee vehicle in Greshk district. Afghan soldiers intercepted the attack by hitting the vehicle with a rocket before it could reach its intended target. The explosion killed three civilians and three Taliban attackers, while wounding three soldiers. Although the militant attack was thwarted by security forces, civilian casualties resulted from the engagement. The Taliban did not comment on the incident.
