On June 16, 2018, the second day of Eid al-Fitr, a celebratory gathering was held in Rodat district to mark the holiday and a three-day ceasefire between the government and Taliban. The event took place at Ghazi Amanullah Khan stadium where 300-400 people had gathered to welcome Taliban fighters who had come to the area during the ceasefire. A suicide bomber detonated a body-borne improvised explosive device at the celebration, killing 30 male civilians including five boys, and wounding 67 civilians including 19 boys. A witness described the scene: "It was the second day of Eid, and many people were gathered to say welcome to the Taliban... Before reaching them, I heard a big explosion and fell unconscious... I saw many people who were killed or wounded. I saw many dead bodies in the area." ISIS-KP claimed responsibility for this attack that deliberately targeted civilians celebrating a religious holiday and temporary peace.
