On October 6, 2018, security forces conducted an operation in Asad Abad village, Lal-wa-Sarjangal District, Ghor Province, to apprehend Abdul-Ghani Alipur. Alipur, a former pro-government militia leader, faced accusations of illegal activities and harassment. Upon entering the village, tensions rose. When a villager, Mohammad Hussain Shojae (reportedly an associate of Alipur), was killed by security forces, a protest erupted. The ensuing confrontation resulted in the deaths of at least seven villagers and injuries to 18 others, according to local reports. Government sources claimed casualties among security forces as well, a claim disputed by local residents.
