- Summary of incident
On June 21, 2016, Taliban fighters stopped a bus and trucks, kidnapping about two dozen men after forcing them off the vehicles. Women and children were released immediately. According to the governor's spokesman, the captives were taken to a Taliban stronghold in Helmand's Marja district. The following day, the Taliban freed 23 of the hostages, while six reportedly remained in custody to face what the Taliban called "Islamic justice."
