On August 8, 2018, a pressure-plate improvised explosive device (PPIED) planted by the Taliban to target Afghan national security forces detonated against a civilian vehicle in Sholgara district. The explosion killed eight civilians, including four children, and wounded six others, including four children. This incident demonstrates the indiscriminate nature of pressure-activated devices that kill anyone who triggers them, regardless of whether they are the intended target.
