On the evening of October 16, 2016, a tragic terror attack occurred at the Sakhi Shrine in District 3, located west of Kabul. A suicide bomber detonated his explosives amidst a large gathering of Hazara and Shia individuals who were commemorating the Day of Ashura. Following the initial explosion, three individuals dressed in police uniforms infiltrated the crowd and began firing indiscriminately. The attack resulted in the unfortunate loss of at least 18 civilian lives and injuries to 60 others. Responsibility for the attack was claimed by ISIL-KP. However, certain government agencies have attributed the attack to the Haqqani Network.
