On March 21, 2015, unknown armed men assassinated District Governor Gholam Yahya Khan and tribal elders Abdul Jabar and Mullah Abdul Aziz in the Gulistan and Shib Koh districts of Farah Province. While no group claimed responsibility for the killings, the Taliban were operating as the main insurgency group in the area at that time.
