- Summary of incident
In 1978, officers of the intelligence service arrested Ahmad Shah Ahmadzai’s brother and cousin. Ahmad Shah Ahmadzai served as Minister in the Mujaddedi and Rabbani governments from 1992-96. In the initial days of their detention, they were in the custody of Babrak Shinwary, a leader of the PDPA youth wing. After that, all three disappeared. The family was not able to trace or ascertain their fate. They concluded that the men must have been transferred to Pul-i Charkhi and executed. During the same period, PDPA intelligence officials disappeared numerous acquaintances of Ahmad Shah from the Khak-i Jabbar area, including thirteen men.
