In June 2015, a 17-year-old student named Javedullah was shot and killed while crossing a Khost Protection Force checkpoint in Khost City. The student, who was wearing earphones, did not hear orders to stop and continued walking. A fighter at the checkpoint opened fire, killing him. No formal investigation was conducted into the incident. The family reportedly received a compensation payment of $5,000.
