On June 7, 2017, at around 8:00 PM, six artillery shells fired by the Afghan National Army struck Mazaar village in Farah province. The bombardment hit a family home, wounding six members of the same family, including four children, one man, and one woman. All injured family members were taken to the hospital, with one child reported in critical condition. According to the governor's spokesman, the artillery strike was part of a response to insurgents who had stormed security checkpoints in the village, with forces targeting the area from which militants had fired.
