On March 21, 2018, a suicide attacker detonated an explosive device near the Karte Sakhi shrine, where a large gathering, mainly composed of Hazara and Shia communities, had assembled to celebrate Nowruz. The attack resulted in the deaths of 35 civilians, including four children, and left 65 others injured, including six children. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – Khorasan Province (ISIL-KP) claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack and identified the suicide bomber as Talha Al-Peshawari.
