Taliban suicide bombers attacked the offices of NGO Counterpart International, an American-run contractor, in Kabul. Following the initial explosion, gunmen gained entry to the building complex. While no Counterpart International staff were killed, Afghan police security officers stationed at the front gate were among the casualties. Nine people were killed and 20 were wounded in the attack, with most victims being civilians and one police commando. Among the dead were three employees of the American aid group CARE, which had offices nearby. The assault targeted humanitarian organizations operating in the capital.
