On February 16, 2017, a pressure-plate improvised explosive device (PPIED) detonated against a pickup truck in Urgun district, killing eight boys and four men, and injuring three boys and one man. The victims were being transported home from a madrassa (religious school) when their vehicle triggered the explosive device. No group claimed responsibility for planting the indiscriminate weapon.
