On August 20, 2016, a 32-year-old Afghan woman turned herself in to authorities in Shibirghan, Jowzjan province. She reported that her husband, Qari Zia, a local Islamic State commander, had pressured her to become a suicide bomber. The woman had been married for three years to Zia, who was formerly a Taliban commander from Jowzjan province but was now based in Nangarhar with the Islamic State.
