On June 17, 2018, the third day of Eid al-Fitr, the ceasefire between the government and Taliban was broken by attacks in Jalalabad City. A bomb was planted near the governor's office where people were waiting for the conclusion of a meeting between government officials and Taliban representatives. The explosion killed at least 18 people and injured 45 others, targeting civilians gathered during what was supposed to be a peaceful dialogue.
