Summary of incident

On February 2, 2019, Taliban fighters shot and killed the Gosfandi deputy district governor as he was returning home from evening prayer. Pro-government militia members present in the area killed one of the attackers during the incident. This represents a targeted assassination of a local government official by the Taliban.
