On May 11, 2018, during ground engagement between Taliban and Afghan National Army forces in Zabul province, ANA mortar fire struck civilian houses, injuring 15 civilians including three children. When a civilian called the ANA to inform them they were firing at civilian homes, the ANA commander responded without remorse, stating: "My friend has been killed by the firing that we received from your village, so what should I do, just sit and wait?" The ANA accepted responsibility for the civilian casualties.
