- Summary of incident
On April 19, 2022, a series of three explosions occurred at educational institutions in the Dasht-e-Barchi area of Kabul's western suburbs. The incidents resulted in more than 27 fatalities and 30 injuries. The initial blast took place at the Mamtaz Educational Center due to a hand grenade thrown by an individual identified by students as Qari, causing multiple critical injuries. This was followed by a suicide attack at the nearby Abdurahim Shahid High School. A subsequent remote-controlled explosive device (IED) detonated among individuals assembled for rescue efforts at the high school. The victims were all civilians, predominantly students. The Islamic State of Iraq and Levant-Khorasan Province (ISIL-KP) has claimed responsibility for the attacks, stating an intent to target the Hazara-Shia community.
