On January 22, 2022, an explosion occurred in a minivan traveling from downtown Herat City to the Haji Abbas neighborhood due to a magnetic bomb attached to the vehicle. The incident resulted in 7 fatalities and injuries to 10 individuals, including women and children. The victims were members of the Hazara ethnic group. While no individual or entity has claimed responsibility for the attack, similar incidents targeting the Hazara-Shia community have been attributed to ISIL-KP in the region.
