On May 17, 2015, a Taliban suicide attacker detonated a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VB-IED) near Kabul International Airport. The attack targeted a vehicle belonging to the European Union Police Mission in Afghanistan (EUPOL) and occurred in the vicinity of a bus stop. The explosion killed three civilians, including two girls, and injured thirty others. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, asserting they had killed seven members of EUPOL and injured five others. In their statement, the Taliban acknowledged that a "few people may have been slightly injured" but denied killing any civilians in the attack.
