From October 25 to October 29, 2018, a significant assault was carried out by the Taliban on Hazara-majority villages in the Khas Urozgan district. Kandlan, Hosseini, Hamzai, Kariz, and Gardchaman villages were attacked from various directions. The stated reason for these attacks was the capture of Hakim Shojai, a commander supportive of the government and accused of atrocities while working with former Urozgan Chief of Police Matiullah Khan. During the course of the assault, at least 43 civilians were killed, and dozen others were injured. The conflict resulted in the displacement of approximately 402 Hazara families from their homes.
