On August 2, 2017, a magnetic bomb exploded in Abdul Hamid Gardezi Square in Gardez, killing one National Directorate of Security (NDS) agent and one civilian, while wounding 20 others including civilians. According to hospital sources, the body of a security official and 20 injured individuals were evacuated to Gardez Civil Hospital. An eyewitness named Afzal reported that a security forces pickup truck was destroyed and many people were casualties. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
