On May 16, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in the border region between Daykundi and Ghor provinces of Afghanistan. Hekmat, a 22-year-old father of two, was fatally shot at the Halwa Khorak Pass near the Kham-e-Safid Pass. The area is situated between the predominantly Hazara district of Sangtakht Bandar district in Daykundi province and the Aimaq-populated Dawlat Yar district in Ghor province.
The shooting was carried out by two unidentified armed individuals who arrived at the scene on a motorcycle at approximately 5:00 PM. Hekmat, who was the sole breadwinner for his family, left behind a wife and two sons. As of the time of this report, the motive behind the killing and the identities of the perpetrators remain unknown. The Taliban administration, have not conducted any investigation or follow-up regarding this incident.
