An explosive device exploded in the densely populated PD-6 in the western suburb of Kabul on August 5, 2022, causing eight deaths and injuring over 18 people. The Imam Mohammad Baqir Mosque in Sar-e-Kariz neighborhood was the intended target of an attack during a gathering of Hazara and Shia Muslims commemorating Muharram, which honors the martyrdom of Imam Hussein. All casualties were civilians, predominantly from the Hazara ethnic group. The ISIL-KP faction claimed the incident.
