During a ground engagement between Afghan national security forces and Taliban fighters, the Afghan National Army fired a mortar round toward Taliban positions where insurgents were hiding in residential homes. The mortar shell landed on a civilian house, killing three civilians including a six-year-old boy and injuring three children. The incident occurred as government forces attempted to target Taliban fighters who had taken positions within civilian structures.
