- Summary of incident
A remote-controlled improvised explosive device detonated inside a doctor's private clinic in Puli Khumri, killing the physician and injuring six patients, including one woman. The attack was linked to events six months prior when the son of the Taliban's deputy shadow governor was arrested by the National Directorate of Security. The Taliban had pressured the doctor to testify on behalf of the detainee's mental instability, but the doctor refused to provide such testimony. The bombing represented a targeted killing in retaliation for the doctor's refusal to cooperate with Taliban demands.
