In early July 2021, when Taliban forces were fighting with the government forces over gaining control Ghazni province, the group fighters summarily executed 9 Hazara civilians. According to eyewitnesses interviewed by Amnesty International, the incident occurred in Mundarakht village of Malistan district between 4-6 July 2021. Six of the men were shot, and three were tortured to death, including one man who was strangled with his own scarf and had his arm muscles sliced off.
